Saw U23D for the 4th time last night. What a great way to end my U2ey weekend. Not much can drag me out of my warm apartment on a cold dreary winter night like U2 can. I was still worn out from Vertigo USA the night before (see previous entries) and so tempted just to stay home. I was so glad I went out and saw it though, the movie was still great the 4th time around (as if there was any doubt it would be). The weather was bad and stormy all day (with a threat of hail and tornadoes) and we debated if we'd even go see U23D at all. Luckily the weather cleared off by the evening. It was still damp and the winds were cold and blustery out of the north. We figured there'd probably hardly be anyone at the theater since it was 11:30 at night...especially for a U2 movie that had been out for several weeks already. Boy were we wrong! I guess the word had spread that this would be the last showing at that particular IMAX theater. As I drove past the front windows to get to the parking lot I turned and was shocked at the long line already waiting! And we thought getting to the theater at 11pm would be early enough!
I rushed in the theater to get to the automatic ticket machine. As I walked in, I spotted the manager running around carrying stuff and talking on his walkie talkie doing manager stuff. He spotted me and as we passed, he said "Oh hey!" That's crazy, being recognized by the manager of the theater LOL! Well I guess not so crazy since this was the 4th time I'd been there for the same movie. And we'd all gotten giant U23D posters from him a couple weeks before.
I didn't notice anything new in the film this time around. Favorite moments include Adam's little dance during 'Streets' just before he puckers up for a big kiss on the lips from Bono...Bono singing 'Miss Sarajevo' (amazing to watch his veins about to pop as he belts out the high notes!)...and 'Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own' gave me chills this time around. That hadn't happened before. And of course there's the credits...love the animations and 3Dness of the credits. I felt like yelling at anyone who dared get up and leave during the credits!
Unfortunately the U23D floor stickers that we were going to ask the manager about snagging were aleady gone. Its sad to think they might have just thrown them away. The regular Cinemark floor mats were already back on the floors by the doors. We even peaked under the mats to check, haha!
It was a bitter sweet moment leaving the theater knowing we wouldn't be back to see U23D in all it's glory. U23D opens up at other theaters in the Dallas area on February 22nd. I'm pretty sure the quality won't be the same.
Vertigo USA's performance at Firewater last night was awesome! No, they didn't actually play "Electrical Storm" but the brief interruption by the "electrical storm" outside didn't deter the show. The band played on until about 2am and didn't even realize they'd played about 30 minutes past the time they were supposed to end until they asked us what time it was afterwards. I don't think anyone minded though.
And a big shout out to all my U2 Texas Yahoo Group friends! I'll miss y'all when I move to the Netherlands next month. But I'll be back to visit!
Here's some pics and video from the show. The video isn't the greatest...I think my digital camera is a bit old and we were a bit too close to the speakers. Click on image to see it larger.
